A Northern Flicker and a European Starling fight for possession of a nesting hole that has everything but hot and cold running water. The Starling had taken the nesting site from the Red-bellied Woodpecker who dug it out.
On our recent trip to Costa Rica, I filmed this Bare-throated Tiger Heron. Gorgeous though he is, he can look like a cross-eyed Keith Richards. And the poor fella looks like someone shoved a funnel, narrow end first, into his throat.
